Agriculture

Harvey has long been known as a farming community. Although there is much more to Harvey then just farming, it has always been an integral part of the community. For the early settlers, farming was one of the primary industries once the Great Road had been built. Almost every farmer raised timothy seed in the early years. Most of the produce was carried to Fredericton and sold in the markets.

Harvey became known for it's fine dairy products. The Harvey Creamery was established in 1934 and the butter, buttermilk, ice cream and cheese made there were some of the finest in the province.

In the late 1800's the Farmer's Trading Company Ltd was opened and in 1922 the Harvey Jersey Breeders Club was founded. Gilbert Robison was known for raising prize- winning Jersey cows. He was well-respected in international circles for breeding and judging. There have been many farmers of an extraordinary class. There are still many dairy farms in the area. Produce is always abundant and many residents maintain gardens or small scale farms for their own use.
