Notes on Navigation

This site is best viewed when your monitor's display is set to High Color (16-bit). You can look at, and if necessary change, your display settings by choosing "Settings" from the Start Menu. From there, click on the "Control Panel", and then click on "Display". Choose the tab that is titled "Settings" and set the "Color" drop-down menu to "High Color (16-bit)".

The table of contents will remain on the left hand side of most of the pages on this site. Clicking on a button will take you to that page. The width of the frame can be changed by dragging it with your mouse.

A number of the pages have "thumb-nail" images which can be expanded with a click of the mouse button. You can simply click on the back button from you browser's toolbar to return to the previous page.

Many of the images, tables, and assignments have been put into pdf (Portable Document File) format to minimize the file size and processing time for viewing the files. This makes them easy to view and print.

If your browser is not equipped with a pdf viewer, one is available by clicking here or at Adobe Systems Incorporated. You must download the file by saving it to your local hard drive, for example in the c:\temp directory. Once downloaded, you must then run the file. Select "Start" then "Run" and select the path where you saved the file (for example c:\temp\ar500enu.exe". Once Adobe Acrobat Reader has been installed on your computer, you will then be able to view any of the pdf files and images located on these pages.

Data sets are provided in Adobe and Excel format. The excel files can be manipulated with the software provided on the school computer.

Any text or images from the web browser can be cut and copied to other software applications. For example, text quotes, photos or data can be incorporated into a report. To save an image to disk, simply right mouse click over it, and select "save image as" from the drop down menu to save it under whatever file name you want. The image can then be opened and edited in the image editing software on your computer.

We encourage users to update data bases and advise us of changes, corrections or additions. We will incorporate them into the next version of the Local Knowledge CD.
