Entity 59

Harvey Rural Community

On January 1, 2023 the Village of Harvey joined with the LSDs of Prince William and Manners Sutton, and portions of Kingsclear and Dumfries to become Harvey Rural Community.  Please go to the new website at www.harveyruralcommunity.ca for more information.

At the end of 2022, the Village of Harvey will be part of a new entity.  It will be formed by combining the Village of Harvey with the Local Service Districts of Manners Sutton and Prince William.  There will also be small sections of the Kingsclear and Dumfries Local Service Districts.  In order to combine our groups, a facilitator has been assigned by the Province to assist with identifying our existing situations and to see how best to create a new entity.  One of the first tasks will be to have a name for our new community.  We also need to formalize the boundaries and create a representation format for Council.  This will consist of a Mayor and Councillors, but the transition team will be working on how many Councillors will be needed and how they will be distributed.  It may be a ward system with a Councillor elected from each Ward or a combination of a Ward system with Councillors at large.

A Transition Advisory Committee is being formed to provide advice on how to form our new group.  It will consist of two members from the Village Council, two from the LSD Committees of Manners Sutton, Prince William and Kingsclear and one from the Dumfries LSD.  A Technical Committee will also be formed to include the Facilitator, the Village Clerk and the Local Service Manager of the Prince William LSD.  Village Council has chosen Mayor Gamblin and Deputy Mayor Corey to represent the Village on the Transition Advisory Committee.

If you have any questions or comments on this process, please email the Village at village.harvey@rogers.com or call 366-6240 on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings between 8:30am and 12:30pm.

New ‘Entity’ officially starts January 1, 2023

A local government is a legal entity that allows residents of a defined geographic area to provide services of a common interest. But it is also a democratic institution, governed by an elected council accountable to the residents and to which they can address their collective concerns. It is an instrument that residents can potentially use to influence positively change and development in their local community
